container home
A shipping container addition to a Boulder, CO residence summoned studies of environmentally-friendly living. Contextual analysis directed design towards a broad, contrasting orientation that would fit into the neighborhood. Life-cycle assessment analysis led to efficient material choices and the use of BioSIPS, a low embodied energy, waste-based SIP. Solar studies stemmed the creation of a recycled wood screen to shade the intentionally exposed southern wall. While interior spaces remain streamlined, opportunities for outdoor space, both private and shared, evolved into the cherished moments of the home.
